About AI Passport
The rapid growth of artificial intelligence (AI) is undeniably accelerating discoveries across diverse scientific fields. In particular, the potential within the biomedical, behavioral, and clinical sciences is particularly promising. However, despite this potential, many domain experts currently have limited understanding of the foundational AI systems that could revolutionize their work. Moreover, opportunities for rapid, focused training in AI for researchers are scarce.
AI Passport directly addresses this critical gap. Rather than simply introducing AI concepts, the program equips researchers with the essential skills needed to integrate these technologies into their research and clinical practice. The program recognizes that realizing the full benefits of AI in these fields requires a workforce that is fluent in its principles and capable of effective application. It’s about empowering researchers to become active participants in the AI revolution, rather than simply observing from the sidelines. This initiative aims to be a foundational step in unlocking a new era of AI-driven biomedical discovery.

AI Passport is a foundational training program designed to empower predoctoral trainees and early career investigators to integrate AI into biomedical & behavioral research and clinical practice.
Participants will explore the fundamentals of AI under the guidance of leading AI researchers and faculty, collaborate with healthcare professionals, and reflect on innovative ways to integrate AI into their research.
What is AI Passport?
AI Passport is a free AI upskilling program from the University of Florida, designed to train the first generation of AI-ready biomedical, behavioral, and clinical researchers and clinicians. It helps you understand AI and integrate it into your research and healthcare practice, alongside a supportive community of mentors, coaches, and peers.
Do I need coding or AI experience to join?
No. The program is built specifically for non-traditional AI learners and requires no prior AI or coding experience. You’ll practice with code-free and minimal-code tools on real-world biomedical datasets.
How much does it cost?
Nothing — AI Passport is a free program offered through the University of Florida.
Who is the program for?
Biomedical, behavioral, and clinical researchers and clinicians at any career stage who want to bring AI into their work. No technical background is expected.
How is the program structured?
Learning is organized into modules covering the fundamentals of biomedical AI, including Fundamentals of Biomedical AI Research, Biomedical AI Alignment, Data-Centric Biomedical AI, Fundamentals of Biomedical ML, Biomedical Image Analysis, Generative AI in Biomedicine, and a capstone Impact Project. Each module blends short videos, hands-on practice, and reflection.
What does the learning experience look like?
The program follows a See, Practice, Reflect, Share model: clear didactic videos explain each concept, code-free case-study notebooks let you experiment on real biomedical data, a reflection journal helps you track your thinking, and weekly community calls let you share your work and learn from faculty, mentors, coaches, and peers.
How much time does it take each week?
Plan for roughly five hours per week. Video lessons and notebooks are self-paced, with weekly community calls scheduled throughout the term.
Is it fully online?
Yes. The entire program is delivered online, combining on-demand materials with live weekly community calls.
Can I earn continuing medical education (CME) credit?
Yes. The University of Florida College of Medicine is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians, and the program offers AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with their participation.
How do I register?
Registration for the Fall 2026 cohort is open now through the “Register Today” link on our site, which takes you to the UF registration portal. New to the program? You can also subscribe on our sign-up page to get updates on upcoming courses.
Where can I get help or ask a question?
